Goal Zero 30-Amp External MPPT Kit (SKU 98085) with Victron SmartSolar Controller for Yeti Tank Expansion Batteries

Hooked this up to my two Yeti Tank expansion batteries last weekend. With 400W of panels the Victron controller had the whole bank topped off in roughly three hours of solid sun, exactly as advertised. The SmartSolar app is a nice bonus — I can check charging status from the porch without walking out to the shed. Install took maybe twenty minutes with basic tools. Best upgrade I've made to my solar setup, hands down.

Replaced my old PWM setup with this external MPPT kit and the difference is honestly shocking. Way more efficient charging, especially on partly cloudy days. The Victron unit is a quality piece of gear and the kit includes everything you need to connect to the Yeti Tanks. Well worth it at this price.

The hardware is excellent — the MPPT tracking is noticeably better than the built-in charging on my Yeti, and my tanks hit full charge about twice as fast. Only knock is the documentation assumes you already know a fair bit about solar wiring. Watched a couple YouTube videos and got it sorted. Would recommend to anyone comfortable with basic electrical work.

Charging performance is great once configured, no complaints there. But getting the Victron controller settings dialed in for my Yeti Tank bank took some trial and error, and a phone call to support. Solid product, just not quite plug-and-play for a beginner like me.

I was skeptical about a discounted Victron-based kit, but this is the real deal. The 30-amp charging means my Yeti Tanks go from empty to full in an afternoon instead of over two days. Cables feel substantial and the connections are clean. Only reason it's not five stars is I'd like the mounting hardware to be a bit beefier. Functional, just not overbuilt.

I have no doubt the kit performs well when it works — my neighbor has the same one. But my unit showed up with a loose input connector and I had to go through a replacement. Customer service handled it eventually but it cost me a weekend of solar time.
