Victron Energy Orion-Tr Smart 24/48V 8.5A 400W Isolated DC to DC Charger – Bluetooth, Dual Battery Systems, Lead Acid & Lithium

Charging my 48V lithium house bank from the 24V starter alternator and this Orion-Tr Smart does it flawlessly. The Bluetooth configuration let me set the exact charge profile for my batteries before I even mounted the unit. Isolation between systems is exactly what I wanted for peace of mind. Runs warm as expected at full output but the temp-based derating handles it automatically.

Installed this in my sailboat to charge the 48V bank from the engine's 24V alternator. Has worked without issue for six months of cruising. The VictronConnect app occasionally needs a second try to connect but settings and monitoring are otherwise great. Wiring terminals could use a bit more clearance for fat gauge cables.

Mounted it, dialed in the lithium profile over Bluetooth, and haven't thought about it since. Does exactly what it should every drive day.

Charging performance is solid and the isolation is a real advantage over cheaper units. However it gets genuinely hot at full 400W output and needs serious ventilation in the install location. I added a fan to my compartment which solved it. Function is good, thermal management on your end is on you.

I've run Redarc and Renogy units in previous rigs and the Orion-Tr Smart is a clear step up. The engine-run detection works reliably, so it only charges when the alternator is actually running. Firmware is updated over the air through the app, which is very convenient. My 48V bank goes from 30% to full on a three-hour drive. Quality throughout — you can tell Victron doesn't cut corners.

Works exactly as advertised charging my 48V lithium setup from a 24V system. Just make sure you size your input cabling properly because this thing pulls serious amps on the input side. Bluetooth config was simple and I like being able to monitor charge current remotely. Would buy again.
