Victron Energy Autotransformer 120/240V AC – Step-Up/Step-Down Split-Phase Balancing Transformer with Ground Relay

Using it with a Quattro 48/10000 on a 120/240V panel and the load balancing function does exactly what it's supposed to. Unbalanced loads no longer trip anything, and the built-in ground relay handled the bonding correctly. Heavy unit, well built, and thermal protection gives peace of mind. This is professional-grade gear.

It's a transformer, so of course it weighs a ton — plan your mounting accordingly. Performance has been flawless for eight months stepping 240V down for my RV pedestal. Hums very faintly under full load but nothing objectionable.

Our installer spec'd this for a MultiPlus-II setup feeding a North American split-phase panel. It steps up the 120V output to 240V for the well pump and balances the leg loads automatically. Wiring terminals are generous and clearly labeled, and the external ground relay connection was a breeze. Six months in, zero issues, and the peace of mind from the thermal protection is worth it alone.

Functionally it's fine — voltage output is stable and the balancing works. It does get noticeably warm during sustained loads, which the specs say is normal, but I keep an eye on it anyway.

Couldn't run the well pump off a single 120V inverter until this came along. Now the whole homestead runs off the battery bank.

Installed per the manual with proper torque on all connections. It works, but the mechanical hum under load is louder than I anticipated for indoor installation.

Quality transformer and the ground relay integration with my MultiPlus works exactly as designed. Just make sure you read the wiring documentation carefully — the internal/external relay options can trip you up if you rush it.

Split-phase balancing with a Quattro works great — legs stay within a couple of volts of each other even with uneven loads. Expensive, but the sale price helped and you're paying for genuine engineering, not marketing.

I do solar installs for a living and this is my go-to for split-phase off-grid jobs. Clients never hear their lights flicker when big loads kick on the 240V side. Never had a warranty claim on one in dozens of installs.
