The Victron Energy BMV-702 is a battery monitor with shunt and display for 6.5–95 VDC systems, tracking state of charge, voltage, current, and time remaining. Buy it online at PowerHaven Outpost for the current discount price of $63.19 — 54% off the $137.70 compare-at price.
The second (auxiliary) input can be programmed through the setup menu to measure battery temperature, midpoint voltage, or the voltage of a second battery. Set function P07 (or via setup flags) to select the aux input mode, then assign alarm thresholds for midpoint deviation or low voltage as needed.
Choose midpoint voltage monitoring on the aux input to detect imbalance between series battery groups — the display alerts you when midpoint deviation exceeds your configured alarm threshold.
Wire the 500A shunt on the negative side of the battery bank: battery negative to the shunt's battery-side bolt, all system loads and chargers to the load-side bolt, and the monitor's black B1 cable to the battery side. The enclosed shunt housing protects against high-voltage exposure.
Add the VE.Direct Bluetooth Smart dongle (sold separately) to monitor on smartphones and tablets, or connect a GX device via VE.Direct cable for worldwide VRM cloud monitoring.
Percent state of charge, voltage, current, energy/time remaining, plus a programmable relay to control other devices. Easy initial setup with clear programming menus.

Voltage alone was always a guess. The shunt-based amp-hour counting is accurate within a few percent based on my charger's numbers. The midpoint monitoring caught a failing battery in my bank before it dragged the others down.
Every serious battery system needs a monitor and this is the one to get. I track consumption down to individual appliance usage by watching the current draw live. The auxiliary input reading my second battery's voltage lets me keep an eye on my starting bank too. Display is bright and readable even in direct sun. Setup took twenty minutes including the shunt wiring. Should have installed this years ago.
Sync is simple and the amp-hour readings match my expectations closely. Installation was straightforward if you're comfortable with basic wiring. Great peace of mind for my solar setup.
Accuracy is excellent and the midpoint feature is genuinely useful. The display itself looks like it's from 2010, but honestly the simplicity makes it easy to read at a glance. Function over form and I'm okay with that.
Accurate, easy setup, great value.
Two years of continuous use on my solar bank with zero glitches. Calibration was simple and the % sync holds true. Only wish it had Bluetooth built in like the SmartShunt.
The readings are trustworthy once configured, which is the main thing. But getting the charged voltage and tail current settings right took me some research, and the manual isn't beginner friendly. Good hardware, mediocre documentation.
The midpoint deviation alarm flagged a problem in my battery bank that I never would have noticed. Replaced the weak battery and the bank is balanced again. This monitor paid for itself right there. Highly recommended for anyone with a series battery bank.
Worked well initially and the readings seemed accurate, but the LCD started fading and then went dark entirely after about five weeks. The shunt still works apparently since my system keeps charging. Waiting on warranty support now, so we'll see.
I'm 58 and not an electrical wizard, but even I installed the shunt and got this running in an afternoon. Watching the state of charge percentage instead of guessing from voltage has changed how I manage my RV batteries completely. I now know exactly how many amp-hours my fridge uses overnight. Excellent product.
I run off-grid solar rentals and have a dozen of these installed across properties. They just work, year after year, and tenants understand the display instantly. The 95VDC range covers every system I deploy. When a client asks what battery monitor to buy, this is my answer.
