Mount the unit near the batteries, wire the input side to the start battery/ignition-switched feed with an appropriately rated fuse, wire the output to the service battery bank, and use the screw terminals — no specialized tools needed. Configure charge parameters in the VictronConnect app via Bluetooth. Consult the wiring diagram in the manual for fuse sizing and engine-run detection.
Yes — the Orion-Tr Smart works with lithium (LiFePO4) and lead-acid batteries. Set the correct charge profile in VictronConnect; for lithium systems use an ignition-controlled engine-detect setup to protect the alternator.
Common causes: no ignition/engine-detect signal on the remote pin, blown input fuse, undersized wiring causing voltage drop, or wrong charge settings. Verify input voltage at the terminals and check configuration in VictronConnect.
Non-isolated suits common-negative 12V systems where input and output share ground — lighter and more efficient. Choose the isolated version when grounds must be separated, such as certain marine installs.
At $71.00 vs $160.00 compare-at, that's $89.00 in instant savings (55%+ off), plus 12% more with coupon OUTPOST12. Order over $45.00 to ship free. Compare with the 18A isolated model at $69.22 or the 30A isolated at $84.16 — the 30A non-isolated delivers the most amps per dollar. Buy today.

Yes — it supports lithium (LiFePO4) and lead-acid chemistry; select the correct charge profile in the VictronConnect app.
Mount near the batteries, fuse the input from the start battery/ignition feed, connect the output to the service battery with screw terminals, and configure via Bluetooth.
Non-isolated is for common-negative 12V systems and offers best value and efficiency; choose isolated (30A at $84.16 here) if your installation requires separate grounds.

Installed this between my truck's starting battery and a 100Ah LiFePO4. Wired it to the ignition signal so it only runs when the engine is on, and it pushes a full 30A without getting uncomfortably hot. The Bluetooth app makes tuning easy. Great buy at this price.
Charging performance is excellent and the app is genuinely useful. It does get warm at full output, so mount it somewhere with airflow. No complaints otherwise after 4 months.
Easy install, flawless charging, great app.
Towed my travel trailer 2,000 miles this summer and the house batteries stayed topped up the entire way. I'm in my sixties and did the install myself over a weekend — the instructions were clear and the wiring is straightforward if you take your time. Watching the charge profile from my phone while fueling up never got old. This is the second Victron charger I've owned and the quality is consistently excellent.
The hardware is solid, no doubt. Getting the Bluetooth settings dialed in took longer than expected because the app terminology confused me at first. Once configured with the correct lithium profile, it's been trouble-free.
Replaced a dumb voltage-sensitive relay with this and the difference is huge. Proper multi-stage charging for lithium, engine-detect on/off, and I can monitor everything live. Worth every cent of the sale price.
Six months in my van build with zero faults. Charges at the full rated current when the alternator has headroom. Fan is audible but not annoying.
Runs my fridge and charges batteries off the alternator while driving. Bluetooth let me set the charge voltages without any dip switches or guesswork. Compact enough to tuck behind the seat. Highly recommend for anyone doing a dual-battery setup.
Worked great for about five weeks, then the cooling fan started screaming like a jet engine. Unit still charges but the noise is unbearable. Warranty process was smooth, so I'm hopeful the replacement lasts longer.
At 55% off this was cheaper than lesser brands. Victron build quality is obvious the moment you pick it up — heavy, well-sealed, quality terminals. Charging my second battery properly instead of draining it has extended its life dramatically.
Configured as a power supply mode for when I'm parked, and it handles that flawlessly too. The engine-run detection works exactly as described. Solid product, solid brand.
Performance has been excellent for three months in my truck camper. The mounting tabs are a bit awkward and the terminals could use more clearance for thick cable. Functionally, though, it's superb and the app monitoring is a real step up.
