How Does the VE.Bus BMS Work?
The VE.Bus BMS connects to a Victron MultiPlus, Quattro, or Phoenix inverter/charger via a standard RJ45 UTP cable. It monitors cell voltages and temperature, then takes protective action: it shuts down or disconnects loads on imminent cell under-voltage, reduces charge current on imminent cell over-voltage or over-temperature, and shuts down or disconnects battery chargers on over-voltage or over-temperature conditions. This is why a MultiPlus may drop to emergency 5A charge mode — the BMS is limiting charge current to protect the cells.
