Cobra RAD 490i Radar Detector with IVT Filtering, Digital Signal Processing, and Drive Smarter App Connectivity

Picked up a state trooper's Ka band a solid mile out on the highway. The IVT filtering has cut my false alerts from cars with blind spot monitors dramatically. App connectivity lets me see what other drivers spotted ahead. Can't beat it for under $80.

This is my first radar detector and it's been great. False alerts from other cars' sensors are much rarer than my buddy's cheap detector. Range on K band is decent for the price class. Wish the mounting hardware felt a bit more premium.

Daily commuter here with a long highway stretch. The RAD 490i warns me early and the IVT filtering means I'm not jumping at every Honda with lane assist. Setup with the Drive Smarter app took five minutes. Saved me at least twice already.

Detection range seems fine and the app is a nice touch. Still get some false alerts in heavy city traffic despite the filtering. For the sale price it's acceptable, but I expected slightly fewer falses.

Long range, few false alerts, easy app setup. Very happy.

Coming from an older Escort, this holds its own at half the cost. DSP processing makes alerts feel more confident and less chirpy. The windshield mount is adjustable and stays put. Two months in, no issues.

Maybe my area is just saturated with automatic door openers and cars with sensors, but I get falsed constantly despite the IVT filtering. Detection of actual threats seemed okay when I tested it. Returning it for a GPS-equipped model instead.

My 2015-era detector was basically a noise machine. This one filters out the clutter and gives clean, early warnings. The app community alerts are a genuinely useful bonus. Drive confidently now without the constant chirping.

Bought this after a speeding ticket convinced me to wise up. It's caught K and Ka band with plenty of lead time on my daily routes. Filtering isn't perfect in dense traffic but far better than budget units. Good value at this price.
